Volunteering

Frome Museum is run entirely by volunteers and a range of interesting opportunities are available. Helpers are of all ages and backgrounds, and work in the Museum is an excellent way to learn more about Frome’s history, and the diversity of its people. We are always on the look out for new volunteers.

We have varied opportunities for work with our collections.

Staffing our reception, where we meet our visitors, provides encounters with people from all over the world, as well as local inhabitants.

Working in our well-stocked library and archive, which provides opportunities to assist with research.

Help with conservation of our thousands of artefacts, and providing appropriate schemes of display and explanation.

We  have opportunities for those who have museum, library, educational, research, administrative or other relevant experience or interests and are perhaps  taking a career break, have recently moved to the area or who are retired. We aim to be as flexible as possible to fit in with volunteers’ personal circumstances when patterns of duty are arranged.  Some have a regular weekly shift patterns; others work on particular projects which involve a more concentrated focus of time.
